Midwest Book Review: Critique: A compelling and attention absorbing read from beginning to end, “Oracles of an Ethiopian Coffeehouse” clearly establishes author Paul Sugg as an impressive and exceptional novelist of the first order. Very highly recommended for community library General Fiction collections, it should be noted for personal reading lists that “Oracles of an Ethiopian Coffeehouse” is also available in a paperback edition (9781491777152, $17.95) and in a Kindle format ($3.99).
I’ve looked forward to the 2016 baseball season with great anticipation, and not just the majors, but the minor leagues as well. As I live in the Des Moines area (as some would correctly refer to as the largest small town in the world) there are no professional major league franchises here. Hence, we have a Triple AAA affiliate baseball team: the Iowa Cubs, the minor league farm team for the Chicago Cubs. And, that’s ok. Though major league baseball…..
The Orthodox Church celebrates Easter this Sunday. In Ethiopia, Easter is celebrated more than Christmas and the New Year. It celebrates the reason why Jesus came. Ethiopia has been a Christian nation since approximately 325 A.D., proclaimed as such by King Ezana, though many would claim Christianity in Ethiopia goes back much further. They cite Acts, Chapter 8, where Phillip baptizes the Ethiopian. The Ethiopian in question was actually an Ambassador of the Queen of Ethiopia. He was returning from…..
When I hear the banter of the latest campaigns blaring across news channels, I shake my head and chuckle at the superficiality of both sides (not “on”, but “of” for such superficiality extends beyond the attacks to the aspirants themselves). Hillary Clinton and her attacks on everybody coincide with such shallow non-answers to the real issues impacting our lives it’s nauseating. I deem it appropriate to bring J.D. Salinger’s words into the discussion at this point. He wrote in Seymour-…..
Winged ballerinas of white alabaster and cream sporting pink highlights and black tips strut across the aqua blue mirror that has become their stage for an uncorreagraphed spectacle. Sunlight graces the “mirror” brilliantly illuminating its vibrance, revealing contrasting shades of aqua, cyan and indigo as it cascades down across the glassy water, then gently dances on the ripples of Lake Nakuru’s shoreline before darting ashore, disappearing in the trees. The scenery speaks with such imagery, as if light moves the…..
Author Paul T. Sugg is Today’s Honoree for Tuesday March 15th, 2016 There are an estimated 250,000 child soldiers in the world, according to War Child UK. Although the civil war in Uganda has subsided, the psychological effects are still present with these children. Paul T. Sugg, author of “Oracles of an Ethiopian Coffeehouse,” and CEO of AppTech Development International, Inc., has witnessed this brutality first-hand. He has worked in development of Third World countries for more than 40 years. “I…..
When we see the hypocrisy of riots from Ferguson, Missouri to the latest disruptions of Donald Trump’s rallies, we are seeing the worst forms of “counter-revolutionary” action that not only attack the first amendment, but the very core of human justice. They threaten to set the cause back one hundred years. They undercut the very moral narrative underlying the basis of human rights, not the least of which will be the outcome none of the protestors want to see: more…..
First and foremost, I have clear understanding of Christianity. As a born again Christian, I not only know of God, I know God through a faith based relationship with His Son, Jesus Christ. I am not perfect, but forgiven. The bottom line is that Christianity is being attacked and distorted, sometimes from the very pulpits it’s supposed to be preached from. I am a realist in the way I see the world. I have seen the poorest regions in the…..
